Style Heroine : Brooke Candy
The stripper who's taking over the rap scene, this California girl is everything. Brooke Candy is so the embodiment of this white trash, ratchet look that is really starting to pick up speed. It's funny to see that as the world's economic situation changes so do our celebrity favorites and we've quickly gone from rich bitches who have everything to down chicks like Candy who make their hood upbringing and real world, accessible lives into something more and more people can connect with. Forget Kim Kardashian sobbing over her sex tape on her reality show, 2013 is about Brooke Candy sliding down a pole and singing about how she wants to fuck right now. Candy is an LA girl, not born but raised, and so much of that LA street style and almost a Latina influence can be found in her image. Bullett
calls her look "stripper meets Tumblr" (don't you love that "Tumblr" is a look now?!) and there's no shame in her game. She comes off like a hyper-sexualized LA gutter punk and actually credits her open sexuality to her father (not as creepy as it sounds; he worked at Hustler
when she was growing up). She started stripping about a year ago and found the perfect release, as well as practice for her oncoming explosion onto the music scene, in the performance aspect of it. And the money ain't bad. Stripping is a major element of her persona and when Vice asked about where her interest in fashion came from she replied, "I'm not sure. I don't follow runway reports or trends, I just dress how I feel, and most of the time I feel CRAZY." Crazy good. Interspersed between her outrageous photos are her three music videos from the singles "Das Me," "Everybody Does It" and "I Wanna Fuck Right Now." You'll also find the video that put her name on the map -- her collaboration with Grimes on the hit single "Genesis."
