Meanwhile in Spain: AW16 collection preview
Talking a bold turn, Miista's AW16 Collection -- HARMATTAN -- is inspired by the lifestyle and aesthetics of the Tuareg tribe, and the deserts they roam.
With this collection we want to celebrate their unmatched craftsmanship. It takes more than an idea to bring Miista creations into life, as I found out when I visited the the shoes factories in Spain last month.
To start with, fabrics used in HARMATTAN speak for themselves: the collection of over 30 shoe styles comprised of gemstones appliqués, satin sheen stingrays, plushy suedes and more. This is what transforms each shoe into landscape of texture:
The process is just as fascinating as the materials would suggest, but far from the frantic hysteria that one might expect from our brand motto: unmeasured madness, it is nothing but utter, meditative calm in the Spanish factories. In the true spirit of the shoe making, each item is hand crafted. It all begins with the sketch made by this lady over here Laura Villasenin, which she then hands to development team.
As I learned, it's not just surface work that counts. On the outside and inside of every item is detail that deserves to be seen - buttery soft leather lining, hand stitching, layers of sequins and gemstone appliqué among them. It's not just what can be seen but what the wearer knows lies beneath - a secret if you will.
All shoes are made on a LAST that determines the shape, comfortability and the silhouette of the shoe.
Here you can spot the lasting process : The material is stretched over the last, and the sole is added.
Manus and Machina: with a little help of both, Marta from AW16 collection will get a set of heels. Meanwhile Laura examines thoroughly the rose gold particles that will go on the top of the style called MARGOT. Every element in this collection will be controlled for quality and then approved for dispatch.
And our shoes are ready to move down the production line!
This cut out to the oblivion style is called JESSICA BLACK. But she's not ready yet:
Fun it may be, but our factories are very serious when it comes to attention to detail. That's why we've also upgraded our good ol' boxes. The new ones will be pitch black and slick. We kept it simple. Do you like it?
Finally, AW16 is ready to be shipped :)
In a season that has seen an endless stream of striped jacquards, wool mohairs, and heels of all shapes and sizes, our friends from factories in Spain deserve a special round of applause. We did it again! Together, we've found a freshly elegant balance in unusual contemporary design.
