Miista Launches AW22

On the 7th September 2022 we presented our AW22 collection as a Runway on the street outside our East London Studio. Celebrating the launch of our AW22 collection colliding with the launch of our ‘Shop by Appointment’ Studio Showroom.

AW22 Runway

We say: ‘Designed in London, made in Spain’ for a reason. The energy and expression of London, particularly East London, has inspired Miista from day 1. Through footwear and clothing design, the local creatives we work with, to the locations we shoot in. You could often find us turning some heads shooting on Broadway Market.

The Miista studio is based a stone's throw away, down the cobblestone canal side Vyner Street, in an old Tannery Victorian warehouse building. Known for its galleries and art - there was once a time when every first Thursday of the month, Vyner Street would be filled with people visiting the open day of the newest gallery exhibitions. And we miss it. We miss the community interaction, excitement and fun.

AW22 Launch Event

AW22 Collection

“AW22 is a personal passion project for me. The 60s forever inspire my work. This season my mind went to Japan and the counterculture movements happening then. The year of the 1964 Olympics but also emerging Japanese psychedelic bands and their spirit of openness and freedom. This collection is about liberating yourself and embracing euphoric moments in life”

AW22 Runway Street Art

Street Art

AW22 draws inspiration from the Fluxus 1960s art movement. Which first saw the likes of John Cage and Yoko Ono staging public performances and statements that blurred life with art. This is why in an attempt to bring the art & community back to celebrate Vyner Street. We wanted to launch our AW22 collection by literally launching it onto the outside of our studio building and opening our home to Vyner Street just like old times. We asked some of our nearest and dearest Miista family to walk for us and long time friend Cristina Reyes to create a mural of artwork outside our office as a backdrop.

We looked at the use of visuals in the 1969 drama Funeral Parade of Roses and particularly the exploration of masks as a way to change and present identities. It just so happens that Cristina also explores the sides of the subconscious and the use of masks in her work.

Interview with Artist Cristina Reyes

What do you explore in your work?

Something that has been rising up a lot recently is the use of masks. The way we as humans use masks to relate to each other. Sometimes emotions take over the mask and you become angry. We change masks depending on the mood. So I’m exploring that concept and giving it shape in different ways.

Can you describe the art you created in collaboration with Miista?

We have 5 sections/ subjects that the models interact with. There are all these elements and I’m creating an image of something you couldn't explain in an analytical way. Aspects of the psychological realm of people.

Each character represents parts of the subconscious that live there and have different tasks. When I’m working the characters rebuild themselves and I like to create a rhythm. I write on them whatever comes to my mind. Kind of poetry or automatic writing. The masks of these mythological creatures represent reality. For example: The first group is the horse formed by 2 people.

We opened our doors

We opened our runway and our office doors to our community for the first time. Here we had the collection available to try and shop as well as a little dance, inviting DJs Cõvco, Taahliah and Elkka to close the evening. We were overwhelmed by the response and we want to send a huge thank you to everyone who came to support us and tuned in Live.

There’s also another reason we are doing this from our studio. 4 years ago we used to have a Miista store on Redchurch Street (and we miss being East). We are excited to announce that the next time we open our doors will be when we open our East London ‘Shop by Appointment’ Showroom, right from our Miista HQ. Coming soon. Here you will be able to try the collection, get styling tips, learn about the technicality of our pieces, learn caring tips, and of course meet the core of our team.  We can't wait to see you there!

Our AW22 Runway Clothing and Footwear is now available to shop online and in-store.

With love
