TURNING LEFT
WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT?

We've never been the type of brand that tells our audience what to do - really we're here to listen. Who are we to tell you what you should or shouldn't do?
But we're also not a brand that will keep how we feel about the state of the world to ourselves, especially as a womenswear brand, female-founded and with women in the majority of leadership positions.
Women are still dealing with men making decisions about our bodies, getting paid less for doing the same work, facing gender-based violence, healthcare inequalities, and wildly unrealistic pressures around appearance.
For us, it’s about refusing to drift into a future where women’s rights and autonomy are constantly under threat. With the US election as we speak, it feels like we’re at risk of landing back where we were in 2016 – which is just another reminder of why we need to keep pushing against the many forces trying to drag us backwards.
Turning left is about choosing to keep moving forward despite all those challenges.
We can’t just sit back and hope things will get better – we have to resist and stay vigilant as laws and policies chip away at freedoms women fought so hard to win. Progress isn’t handed to us on a plate – it’s something we have to keep fighting for, every step of the way.
A lot of people feel forgotten by mainstream politics right now – and honestly, who can blame them? The world’s a tough place to be, and political parties on all sides often feel out of touch. But there has to be a way to move forward without giving in to fear, division and anger.
Turning left means embracing the power we each have to shape the future in a better way. Change doesn’t just happen with big, flashy reforms or by electing new presidents; it’s in the small, everyday choices we make and the conversations we have with each other.
It’s easy to become complacent, but as artist and lifelong activist Caroline Coon reminded us when we spent a day at her studio recently, women’s rights can be reversed in an instant – or with the signing of a new President into office, as we’re scarily close to right now.
In a world where conservative ideologies are on the rise, and turning back the clock for women, turning left is our line in the sand. Are you coming with us?
